The colour sensitive interactive billboard was developed as a joint project between IBM and our global advertising agency, Ogilvy & Mather.
The billboard changes its colour based on who is standing in front of it. It uses coloured LEDs and a camera to “see” the person standing in front of it and changes its appearance based on what the person is wearing.
In the retail industry, consumer data around something as simple as colour can have massive implications around shipping, inventory and, ultimately, overall sales. IBM is trying to make retailers and consumers alike recognise the importance of technology in the retail industry.
Imagine a world where when you walked into a clothing store, a digital personal assistant recognised you by what you were wearing and helped you pick out a new season of clothes based on previous choices and personal taste. That would be pretty cool…
This interactive billboard is a simple and engaging virtual demonstration of how a smarter retail system can work.
